I am member of only one Group and I'm a contributor in another and that is just the perfect amount to keep track of the artworks coming in.
As a contributor I am surprised how practical it has become and it is more of a joint and collaborative effort than regular clubs. It's not perfect, but so far I think that there are more upsides to working in a Group.
I used to work in several clubs before the Groups system and it was a hell of a lot more work having to submit each and every submission that needed to be handled just as you submit a deviation in your own gallery, you know. So Groups are definitely a HUGE time save and so much more effective.
As for the member aspect of it, it is much easier to submit artworks now too.
i like groups. nice to help get my work seen, but i have almost 5,000 deviations between groups and individuals i watch over about a month, with me looking at some almost every day. no way i can look at that many.
Its the best thing that happened to dA since collections
really its a great way to sift through all the new artworks around dA without leaving my message center...and you can now feature your work and get real feedback, comments, favs...back at the old club system i bet hundreds faved ur work in the clubs galleries and not the original deviation
I'm still reserving judgment.. some flood me, and a couple I've had to turn my dev-watch off. It was that or leave. I also started my own, testing how things work. So give me a couple more months, then ask me!
The flood is a pain in the ass! I want to be able to look at art without being flooded by it. I'm part of 9 groups(two of them I own) and I constantly get bombarded with new deviations. Some of them I don't care for(certain artists) but I don't have a say on whose art I do or don't want to see. Its frustrating!!! Just yesterday I had over 200 hundred, I cleaned out the majoriy of them(either by not liking the artist or already seen the art, or by lookng at it). I cleaned out a good chunk of it and already I hav almost 200 AGAIN!!! >.<
Well you got a point there Flooding is a fact.. and 200 a day is "Normal" ,at this moment I'm in to 16 groups including HQ and contributor to Digital Concepts, The old system had a higher level of submitting then the group sys. on the other hand you almost need a schedule for the different standards and days to submit , an how many per day, week, month.
in short: Pro's :submission easiness , getting a wider public etc... Min's :Flooding (turn it off) but art cant be seen beside the ones in your list. seen a group with over 3000 members imagine the submisions to handle and the crap that is slipping in..
So i agree with you when turning off, the whole group sys has no existents
Is it possible to take deviations watch off for groups? Because there is no box to tick/untick in the friends list for deviations at groups. Anyway, i joined a few groups but i made sure they don't submit that much.
I am subscribed to nearly 50 groups and yep, of course i get my inbox flooded I have over 10,000 deviations at the moment. But at the moment I made some settings to not see the deviations from many of them. I just chose to go on their homepage and see the deviations there. Simple
Till now I joined six groups. Yes, it's a devwatch flood, but that's half the reason WHY I joined them: to see beautiful art (the other half of course being getting my works seen).
Hearing people complaining about the devwatch flood caused by groups slightly amuses me: you can't pretend to use groups to get your work seen, and don't accept you'll get other's work popping up in your devwatch. Pretty selfish IMHO.
Of course you often can't look at all those works, and what I do is keeping in my devwatch those which catch my eye and delete the rest.
I have a group, and it's posted a lot of late, but that isn't our norm, and the only reason for the mass posting was to re-enter old pieces, so that each would tie back properly. However, had I known what I know now, I'd have kept it as it was. I really am not fond of the platform at all, and having a group means that all of that is in your personal message center as well .. it's overwhelming to say the least, and the expense will be horrible, as it will cost over 3x what a normal account will per year.
As for the huge Groups, that I joined [haven't contributed to yet], I'm about to remove my name from membership. As much as I hate to admit, I went through this week and turned off their journals so that I wouldn't have to see a kazillion submissions in my watch! It bogged me down so much that I wasn't able to see or view the people I watch in a timely fashion .. and that just wasn't fair to them. So, I'll cease membership, bookmark them so I can find them if needed.
I've got a few sugestions, first of all. I want to be able to decide what kind of Devation I want to get to my box. this is insane I;m getting somtimes more than 1000!!! and the one I'm intersteing are not getting my full attention!
I want to be able to choose what I want to see in my inbox. In my case it's photography and digital art! that is it. I dont want to see literture, film. tradiontal art or any other.
the seconed thing that i want is an application in my page that will control in my groups so I can know when I submitted a deviation, weather she got accepted to the group or not so I wont submit it again.it is simply not possible to control all of that and remember espacially if you have more than 10 groups.
I don't know if there's a way to sort by genre, I only know you can set the front page to show only the galleries you are interested in. But the new stacks system surely helps organizing the devwatch a bit more.
I agree with you, they're causing a massive flood. I hate it but I also don't want to turn off the deviations, so I'll just keep doing what I've done this far - delete the pictures I don't care about and then have a closer look on the others.
I joined many cause I love them I can always find arts I love, and it's not a big deal to close the ones I don't like. (even if it means for me about 800 pics in a day) And it also helps much, the old club system wasn't a big help.
I say they divide the deviations in the messages too watched artists submissions and groups submissions, like there is a division for journals and a division for comments, why do they make a new division for groups submissions.
I love the actual group system, submission easyness and that faves are going where they should, but I said devwatch flood also. Especially if you are watching more than two of the same type of groups you easily can get the same deviation in your devwatch over and over again, I had one SEVEN times! Some limits would be great. Limits how many submission in a day/week/month you can make and also limit to how many clubs you can submit one work. I have seen some work submitted in over ten clubs. Might be just me but I think that's too much.
I say devwatch flood. I made a test of clearing all the devs and in 3 days it went to almost 1000, of which only a max. of 200 were actual submissions by the artists I watch. My thought is if people turn deviations off there is no point in the "getting your art seen" department if no one actually keeps track of group submissions.
