I'm pretty low on $ these days. So I cannot afford buying subs if I were to host a new contest. With the crisis and all, I'm sure no one would volunteer to buy any. I will give away gift bags of my store resources worth up to 50$ to own up, but I'm still unsure if the contest is worth hosting. Most people I know are in for the subs or dA wear when offered.
You shouldn't be expected to donate the prizes yourself anyhow, its always better to involve the rest of the community in donating prizes and subs to the winners of a contest. Often times running a contest is enough work without having to dish out your hard earned cash. Maybe communicate with the artists around you. There will be many that would not participate in the contest that would probably otherwise love to judge, and love to submit subs and journal entries for the winners. In fact I wouldn't mind giving a journal entry for both the contest, and the winners of the contest if you are indeed interested.
I did have help from my friends on my previous contests, I'm just not sure if I can expect anyone to be able to help with the current worlwide economical crisis. the response is split at about 2/3 saying they'd participate even if all I had to offer were homemade prints and exclusives, so I think I'll host it after I've talked with a few people for juding and maybe co-hosting
